The Emotional Reason Rocketman Should Be Seen In A Theater, According To Taron Egerton

Classic rock icons are becoming staples at our local movie theaters. Queen powered last years Bohemian Rhapsody, which attracted huge crowds (and got the Academys attention). And this year, movies focused on Bruce Springsteen (Blinded By The Light) and The Beatles (Yesterday) will be making a play for audience ticket dollars.

Before those drama/comedies hit, though, Paramount wants people to flock to the movies to see Rocketman, Dexter Fletchers movie-musical thats inspired by the life and times of the legendary Elton John. The song-and-dance blockbuster uses the hazy memories of Johns rock escapades to craft a winning narrative. And when CinemaBlend recently sat down with Rocketman lead Taron Egerton, who plays John, we landed on the emotional reason why he thinks this movie deserves the bog screen treatment. He told us:

Eltons music is something we all share. I would go so far as to say as a species now. We are all united over the fact that everyone knows and if they have any taste at all loves his music. And so, I think the shared experience of going to see it in the cinema now look, obviously, Im here selling my movie as well. But I really believe this. I think going to see it in the cinema with a whole group of other people will heighten your emotional reaction to it. And aside from that, just the sound. It needs to be blasted at you.

Theres something to be said about these big-screen treatments of the classic-rock icons of decades gone by. Youll never be able to see Queen in concert again. So paying for a movie ticket to see a faithful recreation of the bands Live Aid set becomes the next best thing.

The same goes for Rocketman. With Elton John tickets currently tracking north of $300 for his farewell concert, theres a very good chance that fans reading this now wont be able to make it to a local concert. And while Rocketman doesnt necessarily replace the feeling of seeing Sir Elton on stage, it does bathe you in the power and solemnity of his songs, while also giving fantastic insight into the creative collaboration between John (Taron Egerton) and Bernie Taupin (Jamie Bell).

Directed by Dexter Fletcher, Rocketman is told from the perspective of Elton John while hes in rehab. It starts during his youth, and continues through his hall-of-fame career. And while we agree with Taron Egerton that his quotes make it sound like he is selling his movie, we can ALSO vouch for the fact that the costumes, the sets and the musical arrangements found in Rocketman absolutely demand that you go see this full-blown musical on the biggest screen possible.

This Rotten Week: Predicting Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom Reviews

This summer has already seen the arrival of many major blockbusters, including Avengers: Infinity War, Deadpool 2, Solo: A Star Wars Story, and Incredibles 2, and now the planet is preparing for another round of dinosaur terror. Get ready for a return to dinosaur land in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.

Just remember, I'm not reviewing these movies, but rather predicting where they'll end up on the Tomatometer. Let's take a look at This Rotten Week has to offer.

We were reintroduced to the Jurassic Park franchise a couple years back with Colin Trevorrow's Jurassic World (71%), an entertaining if unspectacular return to dinosaur land, this time with the theme park having turned into an active site. Unfortunately the success also led to the creation of out-of-control monsters, and as a result everything came crashing down. Now we have Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, which finds Owen (Chris Pratt) and Claire (Bryce Dallas Howard) heading back to the island and saving the surviving dinosaurs from a volcano eruption. Love when those stakes keep going up.

Director J.A. Bayona is new to the franchise after helming some smaller budget, but warmly received films like A Monster Calls (86%) and The Impossible (81%). Reviews for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom broke a couple of weeks ago thanks the the film's early international release, and they are generally positive - with the Tomatometer at 60 percent with 100 articles posted. There's enough of a sample size in to assume the score barely shifts over the course of the week, hence my prediction.

It was a very solid week for the Rotten Watch last time around, with two movies falling within range of my prediction, and the other just barely missing. Incredibles 2 (Predicted: 95% Actual: 93%) was a pretty easy call considering Pixar's continued dominance in the world of animation, and the fact that this was a follow up to a fantastic movie. It's score is just a hair lower than the 2004 original, which stands at 97 percent, but with those kinds of numbers its hard to see it as a disapontment.

Meanwhile, Tag (Predicted: 61% Actual: 56%) was nearly right on the nose. I thought the film looked cute and somewhat endearing without being something the critics would be over the moon about. That assessment proved correct, with a slight majority feeling like the absurdity and silliness behind a group of friends playing an infinite game of tag made for just enough laughs. Those who didn't like it just thought the aforementioned absurdity was a little too much.

Superfly (Predicted: 41% Actual: 54%) counts as a miss for me, but I came close to getting my prediction within range. The 54% rating pretty much sums up the critics' thoughts on this one, with only a few extreme takes and most feeling that it's a middle-of-the-road remake. Most agreed the acting performance of Trevor Jackson held up, but the story seems to be the biggest target and a drag on the final score.

Next time around we've got Sicario: Day of the Soldado and Uncle Drew. It's gonna be a Rotten Week!

Will The Mission: Impossible Movies Head To Space? Heres What Christopher McQuarrie Says

Ethan Hunt has done a lot of crazy things in his time as an IMF agent, including, as depicted above, hanging onto the side of a plane as it took off. But thus far in the Mission: Impossible movies, all of the action has been strictly limited to the confines of Earth, though that's not to say that won't change in the future. In fact, when recently asked if there's ever been any thought to taking this franchise into space, Mission: Impossible - Fallout director Christopher McQuarrie believes it definitely more likely to happen than not. As McQuarrie put it:

I think it's inevitable. We've pretty much gone to the edge of thereof, so yeah, it's sooner or later, Tom is gonna be in orbit. If there's an actor that's going to be the first actor in space practically, it's Tom, or it's somebody... it's [James] Cameron, Chris Nolan, or Tom. Gonna be one of those three guys. That is the new space race.

Knowing Tom Cruise and all the insane stunts he's pulled off during his career, I wouldn't be surprised if he got his hands on a spacesuit and somehow made his way into space aboard a shuttle. Alright, so it probably wouldn't go down quite like that, but as he told Collider, Christopher McQuarrie does think that not only will Ethan Hunt eventually head off planet in a Mission: Impossible movie, but eventually Tom or a heavyweight filmmaker like James Cameron or Christopher Nolan will find a way to legitimately shoot scenes out in space.

As fun as it would be to see Ethan Hunt fighting weightless, I doubt that a future Mission: Impossible movie will actually be able to send actors and cameras out into space, and would instead rely on traditional movie-making magic and effects as is the norm. Then again, Tom Cruise has been playing Ethan Hunt for over 20 years now, so if the actor hangs onto the role for another two decades, maybe by that point whoever's helming the franchise can accompany the actor on board a ship, shoot a couple scenes of a geriatric Ethan punching bad guys inside of a space station, and then safely head back to the ground. From there, the only place left to go is to pit Ethan against aliens!

Not only will we have to wait and see whether or not the Mission: Impossible franchise heads into space, as things stand now, Mission: Impossible 7 hasn't officially gotten the green light yet. However, given that Mission: Impossible - Fallout earn critical acclaim and collected over $790 million worldwide (making it the highest grossing film in the franchise and the fifth highest grossing movie of 2018 so far), it's safe to assume that we'll see Ethan Hunt and his crew back on the big screen eventually.

Mission: Impossible - Fallout is winding down its time in theaters, and then you can pick it up on Digital HD November 20, followed by the Blu-ray and DVD copies hitting shelves on December 4.
