Sony Accidentally Uploaded A Full Movie To YouTube Instead Of Its Trailer

It seems like these days there are teasers for trailers, trailers for trailers and teasers at the beginning of trailers. While the trend appears to be towards short bite-sized clips for modern attention spans, yesterday it looked like Sony might be trying out a novel and bold approach by releasing what seemed like an awfully long trailer, some might say feature-length. Indeed, while Sony intended to post a red-band trailer for the movie Khali the Killer to YouTube, it accidentally uploaded the full hour and a half-long movie instead.

This mistake wasn't over quickly either, as the full movie of Khali the Killer was up on the Sony Pictures YouTube channel for hours before finally being taken down, according to Entertainment Weekly. This led some to speculate that the whole thing was a marketing stunt, yet there would be little to gain from giving the film away for free. So it seems more likely that somebody (possibly a now unemployed somebody) made a major mistake and uploaded the wrong thing. How that happened is anyone's guess. Maybe the files were mislabeled and the film was mistaken for the trailer. Why the film's file would even be accessible in such a way where it could be mistaken for the trailer is another matter. And whoever posted the film didn't notice that the upload was taking longer than it should and didn't bother to check it afterwards.

Khali the Killer is written and directed by Jon Matthews and stars Richard Kabral as Khali, an East L.A. hitman who takes one last job to help pay for his grandmother's end-of-life care. Matters are complicated when Khali begins to feel empathy for his victims. Although IMDb shows that Khali the Killer is getting some sort of domestic release on August 31, the film is already available to rent or purchase stateside on DVD or digital, so it's all a bit murky. But still, a lot of people got to watch this movie without paying for it, which I can't imagine Sony is too thrilled about.

This accident is obviously a bit embarrassing for Sony and potentially a huge mistake for somebody, but it certainly could have been worse. Khali the Killer does not seem to be a theatrical release and was already out there in the world, so somebody could have seen it for free if they really wanted to. At least it wasn't a bigger theatrical release that people were actually aware of, like Sicario: Day of the Soldado, The Equalizer 2, or even worse, Venom.

Kevin Feige Talks Whether Ant-Man's Daughter Will Ever Be A Superhero On The Big Screen

Most of the superheroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe don't have family lives, but Scott Lang is one of the exceptions. His daughter, Cassie, is arguably the most important person in his life, and Ant-Man and the Wasp will see the thief-turned-superhero spending more time with her. Thus far, we've only seen Cassie as a little girl who thinks the world of her father, but those who have read the comics know that Cassie is also a superhero, initially going by Stature and currently fighting crime as Stinger. So when CinemaBlend's own Eric Eisenberg asked Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige about the prospect of Cassie eventually growing into (pun intended) the Stature role, this was Feige's response:

I mean yes, of course. Everything is inspired by the comics that have come before us, and that's something great in the comics. And when and how and where, who knows. But the notion of this strong-willed little girl who's inspired by her father and wants to be involved. And his superheroics are having a positive influence on her is fun to see.

Although Cassie Lang was introduced to the Marvel Comics universe in 1979, it wasn't until 2006 that she followed in her father's superheroic footsteps. After secretly taking Pym Particles for years and initially believing they didn't have any effect on her, upon trying to join the Young Avengers, Cassie discovered that she could increase and decrease her size, hence taking on the moniker Stature. Years later, Cassie was later killed by Dr. Doom in battle, but as is often the case with superheroes, her death wasn't permanent. Cassie was eventually resurrected, and while she lost her powers soon after, now she battles the forces of evil as Stinger, using a helmet that let's her communicate with insects and a suit that let's her fly and shoot bio-electric blasts. Assuming the MCU's Cassie also becomes a superhero, it's unclear whether she'd go by Stature or Stinger, although given her longer tenure as the former, I'd guess that one.

Officially, we don't how Cassie Lang will be used in the MCU after Ant-Man and the Wasp, but unofficially, there may be big things in store for her soon. Cassie is currently being played by Abby Ryder Fortson, but earlier this year, it was reported that Emma Furhmann, who is six years older than Fortson, is playing the character in Avengers 4. Assuming this is accurate, and if the rumor of Avengers 4 taking place many years after Avengers: Infinity War is true, then not only will we see Cassie as a teenager, but there's a chance that by this point, she's become a superhero in her own right. Even if that isn't the case, Kevin Feige's comment suggests that it's more likely than not that Cassie will eventually don a costume in this universe.

Ben Affleck just finished a well-publicized stint in rehab, and while many might not want to continue dealing with addiction issues in such a public way, it seems Ben Affleck is taking a different approach. The actor is back at work on a new film called Torrance in which he'll play a former athlete who is attempting his own recovery from addiction while becoming a coach at the high school he used to attend.

Torrance will see Ben Affleck star as a former all-star basketball player who loses his career as well as his wife due to his addiction. In an attempt to get his life back he looks for redemption as the coach of the high school basketball team.

Ben Affleck is producing the film as well as starring in it. This was an active project before Ben Affleck checked himself into rehab but it shows just how close art is imitating life when it comes to the actor. Ben Affleck's addiction struggles haven't been hidden previously, which may have been what drew him to Torrance in the first place.

Ben Affleck certainly has a unique perspective on being somebody in the public eye who has been dealing with addiction, so there may be no actor better suited to bring that to the screen. While we've seen this sort of story done before, this one could be different as the lead actor has a real, if unfortunate, understanding of the material.

While most of the buzz around Ben Affleck's film career may be about exactly what his future is as Batman, because nobody quite knows what's going on there, Torrance, as described by TMZ, sounds much more like the type of film that Ben Affleck likes to make. While he's no stranger to action, he's much more frequently part of dramatic films about more real people. When he is part of those sorts of films he's frequently also talked about in the race for awards and a movie like this certainly could be part of that conversation.

Torrance is a reuniting of Ben Affleck with director Gavin O'Connor who also helmed Affleck's hit The Accountant. A sequel to that movie is also reportedly moving forward, which could make for yet another film by the two. O'Connor himself has had an on again, off again, relationship with DC's film universe. He was previously on board to write and direct the sequel to Suicide Squad but he recently left that project. James Gunn has been announced as the new screenwriter, with a possibility he may direct as well.

Torrance is still early in production and hasn't been given a release date yet, though certainly, we won't see it before sometime next year at the earliest.
