First Look At Michael Myers Coming For Laurie Strode In New Halloween Movie
On October 31, 1978, he came home. Now, forty years after the release of John Carpenter's original Halloween, the terrifying Michael Myers will return to Haddonfield, Illinois for one more showdown with Jamie Lee Curtis' Laurie Strode. There's quite a bit of fan anticipation to see what Stronger director David Gordon Green does with the franchise when Blumhouse's Halloween debuts on October 19, and our excitement is only enhanced by a first-look at Michael bursting through a door to get Laurie. Check out the new image, below.
Some things never change, and four decades and a few bullet wounds have not diminished Michael's immense strength. We don't have much context for that image in terms of plot points, but it's clear that Michael is going to get up close and personal with Laurie in the Halloween reboot. The former babysitter tries her best to barricade the door and keep him at bay, but he can punch his hand through the glass to reach her if he has to. That said, as USA Today points out in this image, Laurie has changed quite a bit in the years since he first tried to kill her, and she's more ready than ever.
Of course, this raises questions about how much damage Michael will sustain throughout the movie. One of the more significant fan discussions that have taken place in the months leading up to the release of this new take on Halloween is the question of whether or not Michael will be genuinely immortal in the film. Michael became increasingly durable and unkillable as the franchise moved forward over the years, but with Halloween apparently ignoring every single one of the sequels, we will have to wait and see how much the classic slasher bleeds when he punches through the glass.
One other thing worth noting about this look at the showdown between Laurie Strode and Michael Myers is how much it harkens back to a classic moment from the original movie. Specifically, the image of Michael's hand bursting through a door feels decidedly reminiscent of the sequence from the original in which the masked killer (played by Nick Castle in the first film) punches his way through a door to get to Laurie -- who then, in turn, has to punch her way through a glass window to get out of the house. Audiences will finally get a chance to see that showdown between Laurie and Michael later this year when Blumhouse's Halloween debuts in theaters on October 19. The film's trailer will debut this Friday, so keep an eye out for more updates!
