The Deadpool 2 marketing campaign has been nothing short of brilliant. Yes, we have had standard trailers and TV spots. But in between those, Ryan Reynolds and the team at FOX have used the meta nature of the fourth wall-breaking antihero to keep the sequel top of mind by bombarding audiences with everything from Celine Dion videos to fake Twitter accounts and candy tie-ins. Now? Leaning on Reynolds' Canadian heritage, Deadpool is on an apology tour for people he might have insulted in the first movie. Lord, this could take a while.

Ryan Reynolds, the man behind the Merc with a Mouth, posted this video to Twitter, where he's trying to apologize to global soccer sensation David Beckham for a joke that he made about Beckham's voice in the first movie. It starts with a text. It escalates to an actual house visit. It ends in a long, uncomfortable embrace. Who knew DP was a hugger?

The funny thing is, I don't even really remember that joke from the original movie. Tim Miller's Deadpool was packed from start to finish with endless one-liners and high-concept gags that a swipe at David Beckham's slightly high-pitched conversational voice.

So by doing this video, Ryan Reynolds basically just called attention to a joke some (many?) might not even have remembered. Hey Beckham, this one might have backfired on you!

I'm sure there are plenty of people who will have their feelings hurt by Deadpool 2. The sequel, in its marketing, has taken huge swipes at Marvel, the horrific X-Men: Origins -- Wolverine, Josh Brolin (who is Ryan Reynolds' costar in this movie), FOX, Reynolds's own movie career, and so much more. But this is why audiences flock to this franchise... though, with the addition of director David Leitch (Atomic Blonde), I'm also thinking that people are going to come out of this sequel raving more about the action than they do about the humor. It's starting to get busy at the multiplex. Sure, Avengers: Infinity War is still dominating, but with Deadpool 2 dropping into theaters, the competition for the big-ticket audiences is ramping up.
